BEST TIME TO GO: Football Season (Early September-Mid November)

 

GREATEST CHALLENGE: Managing the heat and humidity if you’re not used to it.

 

WHAT MAKES THIS PLACE SPECIAL? It’s a tight-knit college town with incredible pride for it’s history and University. Southern hospitality and traditions dating back centuries make Auburn a hotspot for tourism and college hopefuls.

 

MUST EAT:

  •  Lemonade from Toomer’s

  •  Burgers from Sheila C’s

  • Sweet Tea of course! Nobody does it like the South

 

MUST SEE:

  •  A game at Jordan-Hare

  •  The Auburn University campus

  • The Jule Collins Smith Museum

 

MUST DO:

  • Roll Toomer’s after an Auburn win

  • Have a picnic on Samford Lawn

  • Take a picture with Aubie

 

Other Recommendations:

DO NOT step on the seal! You won’t graduate from Auburn in 4 years and you won’t marry your college sweetheart, but even worse, your kids will be Alabama fans. Enjoy every second of your trip to Auburn and relive your college days! Check out the nightlife on College St. and Magnolia Ave. and yell War Eagle at anyone and everyone you see; they’ll know what you mean. Ask about Auburn traditions, everything here is uniquely Auburn and there’s nothing in the world like it.

HOW LONG WERE YOU THERE? 2 weeks

 

BEST TIME TO GO: Mid-November-April

 

GREATEST CHALLENGE: Ride from airport to resort was rocky

 

WHAT MAKES THIS PLACE SPECIAL? The people. They were so welcoming and friendly. The country is also so beautiful. The beaches and waterfalls are breath taking. It is a relaxing community, but also full of adventure.

 

MUST EAT:

  •  Rice and Beans

  •  Cacao Fresco

  • Their coffee

 

MUST SEE:

  • Playa Carrillo Beach

  •  Rincon de la Vieja National Park

  • Santa Rosa National Park

 

MUST DO:

  •  Visit a waterfall

  •  Hiking through the rainforest

  • Zip line

 

Other Recommendations: Get to know the people and the culture. Visit the beaches as often as you can and do as many activities as you can. Seeing the forests and waterfalls is a must for this country. Wear sunscreen and don’t get as sunburnt as I did.
