NAME: Ali
CITY: Honolulu, HI
COUNTRY: USA
YEAR OF TRIP:
HOW LONG WERE YOU THERE? Local
BEST TIME TO GO: Nov-March
GREATEST CHALLENGE: Summer heat, humidity, heavy tourism
WHAT MAKES THIS PLACE SPECIAL? It’s very unique and beautiful. Distinct culture, unreal beaches. Great place for outdoor activities like hiking and surfing all throughout the year.
MUST EAT:
-
Banán (Acai/smoothie bowls)
-
Poke from literally any supermarket (preferably Foodland or Safeway)
-
Andy’s (hole in the wall sandwich shop, which is UNREAL)
MUST SEE:
-
Haleiwa/North Shore
-
View from top of Diamond Head
-
Lanikai/Kailua Beaches
MUST DO:
-
Spend the day at Keiki’s beach on North Shore with Foodland poke, beer, and good vibes ;) (most beautiful and chill beach ever)
-
Hike Diamond Head, Koko Head, or Makapu’u (or all three)
-
Surf in Waikiki (good place to learn and has fun small waves)
Other Recommendations: Do everything outside. Do hikes, surf, enjoy the amazing fresh poke and other Hawaiian-style dishes. Do ocean swims – look for dolphins and honu (Hawaiian sea turtles). Should rent a car if plan on leaving hotel in Waikiki (main place tourists stay). Would recommend staying in Waikiki if you want to be in the center of the action, or Turtle Bay (North Shore) if you want the more secluded chill vibe. Either way a car is recommended as public transport is not great.
