NAME: Jess
CITY: Gozo (the island) /Victoria (city)
COUNTRY: Malta
YEAR OF TRIP: Latest was 2017
HOW LONG WERE YOU THERE? Over a month.
BEST TIME TO GO: July-August.
GREATEST CHALLENGE: The heat. It gets hot. Ridiculously hot.
WHAT MAKES THIS PLACE SPECIAL? The country is unlike anything else in Europe. The waters are crystal clear, food is delicious and generally cheap—it’s slightly Americanized with some aspects, but European in others (the food is like a blend of both). A former British colony with driving on the left but influences of food from Greece and Italy, Malta is not to be missed.
MUST EAT:
-
PASTIZZI TAL IRKOTTA OR PISELLI like if you don’t eat this while in Malta you haven’t been.
-
Granola Gelato @ Marsalforn
-
Prickly pears! They’re a specialty of Malta
-
Bacconcini in Rabat (Victoria)
MUST SEE:
-
The Citadel! It’s ancient and has a GREAT view of Gozo. Especially at night, you can see all the little villages and their churches (churches are v important here)
-
Walk around Rabat/Victoria. There is so much history hidden in the little streets, and need to be seen by foot.
