HOW LONG WERE YOU THERE? 4 months

BEST TIME TO GO: Fall

GREATEST CHALLENGE: Language barrier. English is not commonly spoken in Dresden, especially among the older population.

WHAT MAKES THIS PLACE SPECIAL? Architecture along the river Elbe

MUST EAT:

  • Schnitzel

  • Currywurst

  • Doner kebab

MUST SEE:

  • Zwinger Palace

  • Frauenkirche (beautiful Protestant church)

  • Procession of Princes Mural (Fürstenzug)

MUST DO:

  •  Christmas markets if there during Christmas time

  •  Walk the river Elbe

  • Dresden Castle (especially the Green Vault)

Other Recommendations: USE THE TRAIN AND TRAM SYSTEM AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. The transportation is unbelievably clean, fast, and affordable (free if you are a student). Engage with the locals as much as possible and try to find the hidden gems. Dresden has tons of places to visit that are not necessarily massive tourist attractions.  VISIT THE Rakotzbrücke (Devils Bridge) in Kromlauer Park. It is like an hour away from Dresden by train and it is beautiful.
