NAME: Rachel

CITY: Amherst

COUNTRY: United States

YEAR OF TRIP: 2015-2019

HOW LONG WERE YOU THERE? Undergrad

BEST TIME TO GO: September-October

GREATEST CHALLENGE: High population, expect lines and crowded restaurants/bars on the weekends.

WHAT MAKES THIS PLACE SPECIAL? It’s a great college town, there are 5 colleges within an hour of each other so academia is bustling. Amherst is also not too far from Boston and NYC. Western Massachusetts in general is a beautiful sight to see during the fall.

MUST EAT:

  • Antonio’s Pizza

  • Glazed Donuts

  • The Lone Wolf (breakfast)

MUST SEE:

  • Smith Botanical Gardens

  • Puffer’s Pond

  • W.E.B. Du Bois Library

MUST DO:

  • Emily Dickinson Museum

  • Amherst Farmer’s Market

  • There are a plethora of farms in the area

Other Recommendations: Utilize the PVTA bus system. Most busses are free and they are super convenient! Walk the UMass Campus, it’s enormous and I am still discovering  new thing everyday. Amherst can get rowdy so if you’re interested in a more relaxing experience, come to Amherst during the summer.
