NAME: Zoe
CITY: Washington, DC
COUNTRY:United States of America
YEAR OF TRIP: 2017
HOW LONG WERE YOU THERE? 10 Weeks (I’m from the suburbs)
BEST TIME TO GO: During the work week before 5pm or evenings on weekends if you’re over 21, in late winter and early spring
GREATEST CHALLENGE:
WHAT MAKES THIS PLACE SPECIAL? So many people think DC is only about the politics. This is only half true. There’s the Washington we all know and have come to dislike, but there’s also the District, which is home to many cultures and cuisines that many people pass over simply because of their preconceived notions. DC is beautiful and one of the most amazing cities I’ve ever lived in. There’s so much to do in our Nation’s Capital, all you have to do is go.
MUST EAT:
-
Cava
-
Ben’s Chili Bowl
-
Florida Avenue Grill
MUST SEE:
-
The Monuments at midnight.
-
The White House (obviously)
-
MUST DO:
-
Go to all the museums. (Almost) all of them are free, so take advantage of that.
-
Go to a Nationals Baseball Game
-
See a concert at the notorious 930 Club (basically every band’s favorite venue)
Other Recommendations: Take the Metro to get anywhere. Visit Georgetown, take the ferry into Alexandria. Visit National Harbor. Visit the Arlington Cemetery. Walk on the National Mall, tour Capitol Hill, and go to Open City for coffee every day. Jog through the National Zoo or Rock Creek Park and pay a visit to the Newseum (one of the only paid museums, but the best museum I’ve ever been to).
